Good Morning wonderful families :) We finally have a whole week of school and I am ready to rock and roll. The next couple of weeks are going to bring some fun events so make sure you mark you calendars when emails come out.
The kids will have their first "real" test this Friday over the novel Balto that we have been reading in class. The students need to read over their summaries and their other SWYKs to study. The test will be a comprehension test over the whole story as well as the vocabulary words that we have been going over. To help with the test I sent home a "ways to study" sheet with paper work yesterday. The chart will also be hung in the classroom as reminders.
The kids have really loved the story and as we continue with this novel we will also be comparing with Togo the picture book. Have your students tell you all about this story and the history behind it!!
In math we are still working on those facts. Please make sure you are working on these at home as well. This is a big "skill" that the fourth grade teachers are wanting the kids to be fluent at. Coming from 4 and 5th grade I understand that the standards get harder and harder and students need to have these multiplication facts memorized fluently. We have moved on from small group lessons on these but are still reviewing in our morning work as well as in guided math.
In math now we are starting on fractions and will be working on what these are, how to compare them and how to see them on a number line. Fractions seem to be one of those standards kids either love or hate so we will see how it goes :)
In language we are digging deeper into the different types of adjectives and adverbs. Diagramming sentences are one of the students favorite activity but we will be involving some brain pop and even show and tell next week!
With writing we are working on responding to reading and will be working on subject verb agreement as well.
The "fun" event is our wax museum that the kids are working on here at school. The part that will be completed at home is anything above and beyond the rubric, which was given last week, as well as a costume. Please let me know if you have any questions.
The school dance and jump rope for heart is coming up so make sure you have that down for 2/3/17 :)
Thanks for all your support-
