We can do it, we can do it :) I know we are all ready for the break and to spend time with family and friends. This week will be as normal as can be within school with the exception of our Holiday party on Wednesday. Please let me know if you have any questions about the party. Our amazing room moms have been working super hard to get this ready. Thanks for all you are doing to support the party as well!!!
This week we will not have normal homework. With it being a short week I really just want to kids to practice their math facts. Please do this by writing them, flash cards, apps or computer games. We will test everyday to try and get these passed. So, with this there will be no book bag activity this week. There will also be no correct and return as we are going to try and go over everything today in class. I am through going to hold off on red folders until Wednesday to make sure that we get through all correct and return if today gets away. We have guidence/health today so we will see. Today and Wednesday are PJ days :) We will for sure be having fun BUT we are finishing up a lot of works o please try to have your students here everyday this week. Thanks for all you do and enjoy your break coming up. IN CLASS THIS WEEK Monday: Correct and return, guidence begin a surprise Tuesday: Begin a two day math project that is IN CLASS ONLY and wrap up our compassion literacy unit, and work on our surprise. Wednesay: CLASS PARTY!! work on surprise and wrap up all class work What a great weekend we had in the rain :) Jingle Jog was amazing and I loved seeing a couple of youo there. I will try and get those pictures posted to SeeSaw ASAP. We are starting to work on details for the Christmas party as well as both of our community/STEM project. We will be working with the YMCA this year for them to pass out the blankets once we have them made. If you have any small pieces of fabric to donate for our testing please send that in :) There will be more information coming from our room moms about the party and 2nd community outreach! On another note please please please make sure your student is pracicing their facts nightly. They should either be writing them or getting on MobyMath Facts practice. Thanks for your help with this. As written on progress reports most students need to be on their 6s by the end of this nine weeks. I am also asking that you make sure that your student has headphones for class. We are doing more and more on technology and they will need these to benefit fully from activities. Thanks for all your support and let me know if you have any other questions.
Welcome back!! We hope that you had a great week off and are full of family memories and turkey! Today was a little crazy toward the end of the day so I am going to readdress some questions here that the students might not be able to explain 100%. There are also some very important dates below, mark those calendars!!
DATES: Holiday Shop: Nov 30-2nd Jingle jog: December 3rd Holiday Party: December 21st time TBD IN CLASS THIS WEEK: Math: We will be working on math facts and looking into the different multiplication properties. We will also be introducing area Reading: Continuing nonfiction with book baskets and Time for Kids. They will read and use sticky notes for nonfiction and then answer questions based on their reading. We will also be analyzing holiday books for deeper meanings. Language Arts: We will be writing Santa letters, as well as holiday cards. I would love for the kids to mail some of their cards if they want. Please send in 2-3 addresses of friends/family members that the kids want to write too. We will do this for the next three weeks. We will also be continuing parts of speech with diagramming sentences. Science/Social Studies: Fossils STEM: We will be working on a project for the next three weeks this will involve heat, area, nonfiction text and writing. Please see more information below. HOMEWORK: MobyMax if family wants Math fact practice based on your students progress Book bag activity-THIS IS NEW *** Book Bag Activity*** The students will be bringing home a real world math book starting this week. The students are to read the book nightly and log onto Edmodo to answer questions. Not all questions can be answered until the book is totally read. For this reason I recommend the students logging on to Edmodo to read the questions but then use sticky notes during the reading and answering all questions Thursday. When the due date says thursday I will not check these until Friday morning so they do have Thursday night to work. Please let me know if you have any questions. ***STEM unit*** We will be making non sew blankets for a charity. I am working on a homeless organization or women/children's shelter to see if they are in need of blankets. If you have one please let me know!!! The students will have to research conductors and insulators to determine what kind of materials will make the best blankets. This will cover our heat standards. To incorporate math the students will have to make a child, women, and men's size blanket and these all have different areas. The students will be measuring family members and each other as well as measuring material to make a blanket. We will also connect this to our literature as we are reading about staying warm, winter and holiday stories. Once we are finished the students will get on devices and make cards to go with each blanket. This is my third year doing this and it has been a blast each year!! Thanks for all your support! We had a great start to our short week today! With that said please remember that tomorrow is a teacher workday and the students have it off! With it being a short week we are going to focus on a couple things and not every subject this week. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Math- please continue to work on math facts at home as we will be working on them here. We are focusing on word problems at school and the homework is for math fact memorization. Reading/Social Studies- We will be reading about government as we continue our nonfiction unit. Language: We will write opinion papers based on our government knowledge and dive deeper into verbs. This week there is no correct and return. If you would like for your student to go above and beyond MobyMax is a great way to do this. We also are going to begin having above and beyond options on Edmodo. STEM night is this Thursday here at Ford and we would love to see you there :) Have a great week and thanks for all your support! Happy Monday wonderful parents! This week is my (Ms. Gable) takeover! I will be stepping into my full time teacher role and I am extremely excited! This will be a busy week in our classroom studying fossils, multiplication, traits of a good writer and much more. Now that we have wrapped up weathering and erosion, it is time to become expert paleontologists. We will be studying the different types of fossils through hands-on activities and a web quest. In writing, we will be working on opinion papers.
We get to see each other this week!! Yea :) If I have already seen you it was a pleasure! This week we get out at 12:15 so enjoy the extra fun time if you can and if you had to find child care and want to yell I totally feel you ;) hehe Again I can't wait to chat with you this week.
This week we will be getting into nonfiction text by looking at how and why it is written. We will also be continuing our research on weathering and erosion. We have extended our Famous American research into morning work and the students are doing great. We are jumping into the learning of multiplication facts this week, don't pull your hair out until the end of the year we will get these things memorized :) If you have any "oldies but goodies" that we don't teach please let us know! I am all for teaching this "old" teacher new tricks :) :) For homework we will continue with the new science mini book bag books. Tonight there will be some papers coming home but non of these need to be corrected and returned. We will be sending correct and return papers home on Wednesday this week and these will be due back Friday. I know I know I am adding to your crazy week but I am needing some more time to finish grading everything as I spent most of the free time this weekend getting ready for conferences. :) Thanks for being so understanding and amazing! As we stated last week we will begin adding MobyMax to the agenda nightly but this is a family discussion. Along with papers coming home please be going over and reading any notes on the work that i write. This is a great way to know what your student needs to work on as well as seeing how great they are. I do not require correcting spelling at home but I would highly suggest it if you are seeing this as a struggle for your student. As you all know I am not a homework person but these little things really make a HUGE difference. To wrap up this "long" post I want to remind you of a couple house keeping things! 1. The kids are welcome to eat breakfast here but breakfast stops at 7:45. The students need to be here before this time as to not miss the beginning of our day. 2. Students checking in and out are logged and must be addressed if they accumulate. I will be the first to contact you, then the front office and lastly the administration. Please let me know if you would like to discuss this more. 3. We are here to teach and love our kiddos but we are also here to create independent learners. Please help us in making them "think for themselves" as much as we can! Again we are lucky to have an amazing class of kids and parents and please let us know if you need anything else. Hello everyone and happy Monday! I hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend. It felt like a short one to me! We are now in the first week of the second nine weeks. Woohoo! We have just a few changes for you this nine weeks. One of these changes being our book bag activity. We have switched our book bag activities over from social studies to science. New directions are being sent home today. For correct and return, if your child's paper has a check on it or has been corrected in a different color pen it does not need to come back to school. Only work that has not been corrected needs to be corrected and returned at home. This work will come home on Monday and be due back on Wednesday. Another change is the added MobyMax homework. It is was written in the agendas today. This homework is completely optional. If you do decide to do this, I suggest fifteen minutes a night. We also started book buddies today with Ms. Krafka's first graders, so make sure to ask your child about there book buddy!
Here is a quick look into what our week looks like. This week in science we will be studying weathering and erosion. In reading, we will begin non fiction text features and structures. We will be finishing up our personal narratives in writing and move on to opinion writing. For math we will be introducing multiplication and division math facts as well as continuing our work on word problems. In grammar, we will be diagramming sentences to learn parts of speech. As you can see, we have a busy week ahead of us! Have a great rest of your Monday! :) Good afternoon! I hope everyone had a fun and RELAXING off week! We talked with the kids about their breaks and it sounded like ya'll had fun weekends. We are a little jealous about the stories we heard! Mrs. Miller spent part of her week at the beach, and I (Ms. Gable) enjoyed a weekend in the mountains.
This week in reading we will be comparing and contrasting the settings and characters of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and Alexander, Who's Not (Do you hear me? I mean it!) Going to Move. We will continue editing and drafting our personal narratives in writing. I am super proud of how hard everyone has been working on their narratives. They are really coming along! In social studies, your child is working in a small group on making a map. They have to use cardinal directions and landmarks to take us to a specific destination. In math, we will continue to work on multiplication and division strategies. Today, we introduced the number line strategy. We will soon be moving on to solving multiplication and division word problems. Home work this week consist of book bag activities and returning parent/ teacher conference forms. We do NOT have correct and return or paragraph writing! In regards to parent teacher conferences, we are going to offer you a few options. We will give you the option to opt out or do a phone conference. We will also open up planning and lunch next week (10/10 - 10/14) from 9:00-9:20 and 9:20-9:40 as well as 12:20. We want to be as flexible as possible to meet everyone's needs. Again, thank you for all of your support! Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Hello wonderful parents!! I hope you are making it through all the testing going on here at school and that your little ones are not coming home to grumpy :) This week we test Monday-Wednesday! With the ITBS being longer sessions our specials have been moved to the end of the day at 12:30-1:15. Lunch time is the same :) I want to thank you all for the snacks, the kids have really enjoyed them! Four more days and you will have a week off from me, we can do it :)
This week we are really only focusing on math reading with writing and vocabulary. It is going to be a no book bag activity week as well due to lack of class time to really make it beneficial. With this the agendas will be blank because there is no homework. We always have MobyMax and I am going to share this with the students. This will be considered above and beyond and will result in a paycheck Thursday if completed nightly. Please remember that we are pulling the students to make corrections here at school so this is no longer homework at this time. Most papers will be corrected with a pen some because of time this week have been gone over as a class and will not be corrected on the paper. All papers will be coming home today in their red folder. Also please not the students checkbooks should be in their binder daily for you to see any behavior issues we had in class. This is a great way for you to know what is going on in class in-regards to behavior. Next week is break and we hope you enjoy some family time if possible and if traveling do so safely :) Thanks for all your support!!! |
