I hope that everyone had a restful weekend. Who saw Beauty and the Beast? It was amazing, if you didn't see it I highly recommend it.
OH! I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Allyn Sandridge, I am the current student teacher working in Mrs. Miller's class! The students just call me Mrs. Allyn; it's easier.
Important upcoming dates:
Picture day TOMORROW! Mrs. Miller's class will go at 11:27, after specials and before lunch...thank goodness no PE tomorrow :)
Report cards come home on Thursday, be on the look out.
Coming home today!! a permission slip for the music student teacher so that the students may appear on her educational video. Please return ASAP.
Book orders are coming home today, they are due by this Friday, if you'd like to order.
Today I worked with the students on writing a rough draft of the body of an essay. We learned about measuring mass with Grams and Kilograms as well as measuring volume with Liters and Milliliters. I encourage you to show your child the scale at the supermarket and the measuring cup when you are baking. This will help to make real world connections and create an opportunity for more practice.
Please see below for what we will be doing for the rest of the week.
This week in class we will be doing...
Math- mass in grams and kilograms, volume in liters and milliliters. 2D shapes and comparing them and using them in real life situations.
Reading- Still comparing 2 pieces of literature to write a constructed response. Using Time for Kids to analyze non fiction text.
Science/Social studies- working in our groups to create a powerpoint presentation on our favorite Georgia Habitat. Reading/discussing important rivers and mountain ranges in the US.
Writing- working on writing a constructed response using text evidence to support.
Mrs. Miller and I will continue to work in small groups to fine tune skills throughout each day.
Homework this week:
Please remember we have increased homework to prepare for 4th and 5th grade.
Homework this year still remains optional. Students will not be penalized if homework is not completed or only partially finished. Please keep in mind that any homework that is assigned is work that I feel would be beneficial to meet or exceed the standards. If you would like to narrow down the homework, I would recommend that you focus on the fact families and having your child memorize each family.
