Hello wonderful parents!! I hope you all enjoyed your week with family and friends. If you had to work I hope you enjoyed a little time with your sweet kiddos :) As we get back into a couple of uninterrupted weeks and wrap up the third nine weeks I will continue to raise the bar and expectations for the students.
As you have seen this year I am not one for a lot of homework BUT I do know that in 4th and 5th grade the homework can get a bit hefty. With that said I am going to be starting a homework packet for the students. Homework should be given at a rate of 10 minutes per grade. This does not include reading. NOW, homework is not graded and I am not going to be punishing the students for not doing it but next year and in 5th students will be penalized for not doing their homework. I will collect homework and will not tell the students it is not mandatory but this is still a family decision on how much homework you do nightly. Sooo here is what the homework will now look like weekly...
Math: Conceptua for 10 minutes a night to work on fluency.
Math: 10 minutes working on their weekly packet from their My Math book. We will tear these pages out on Monday and staple them.
Reading: 10 minutes working on their 180 days of reading packet
Reading: book bag activity
We will continue using Dojo in the classroom BUT we are starting over today. The kids hit 2000 points and we will celebrate this class accomplishment soon. Today the students also spent their Dojo points in our class store :) You will see everyone starting over at zero by this afternoon! I am excited to see us hit our next goal of 3000.
Math: We are continuing to learn about fractions and reviewing area and perimeter in our Garden. The students will be pulled into guided math groups and working on their specific needs based on their pre-test. There will not be homework on fractions as homework will be a review.
Reading: We will read a fiction piece on snowflakes and compare Snowflake Bentley and this book. We are also collaborating with Ms. Cunningham in 4th grade for a novel study every Wednesday. We will also be reviewing reading strategies with picture books this week.
Language: We will review all parts of speech this week with diagramming sentences. With our picture books and comparing of snow books we will continue to learn about different types of figurative language.
Science: Learning about the Georgia Habitats and building our outside Georgia garden.
Social Studies: Map Skills and reviewing Government for morning work.
